The Ecosalvage team undertook their first recovery operation on the 18/12/02 in Ramsgate, Kent. After the Ecosalvage initiative made the front cover of Classic Car Weekly, Wednesday November 27th edition, Mrs. Chris Mountains contacted Mac to ask if they could help with the removal of 2 classic cars from her back garden. The main aim for Ecosalvage is to recover abandoned cars found in the countryside that are out of reach of regular recovery firms. However, Mac decided that by recovering the cars, it would help in two ways. The Ecosalvage team would get valuable media coverage, while at the same time, 2 classic cars and 2 large trailer loads of spares would be saved from being scrapped. When Mrs. Mountains and her husband bought the property, they were left with 10 classic cars in the garden and outbuildings. The previous owner, an elderly gentleman had moved to Wales and was in no position to take the cars with him. They managed to sell off most of the cars, but that still left skip loads of spares to be removed from their property at a considerable cost. Matthew Skelton from Classic Car Weekly contacted Mac and asked him to let them know of any classic cars found. The reality was that most cases Ecosalvage would deal with would be stolen and burnt Ford Escorts and Vauxhall Novas, but Mac could see the advantage of getting the Classic Car movement on their side. The cars are now stored in Kent and the team are planning to hold an Autojumble in order to recover the costs incurred for removal. As well as the Riley and Sunbeam Talbot, there are countless spares for other classic cars. Although the Ecosalvage team are not up to scratch on their classic car parts, the following manufacturers have been identified: Austin There were lots of windscreens and door glass recovered, as well as chrome trim and quite a few seats. There are countless engine and gearbox bits, as well as 3 engines. The Ecosalvage team are requesting help in order to identify the parts. If someone from a local classic car club from the above list of manufacturers would be willing to help identify what is what, Ecosalvage would be willing to give that club's members first refusal to buy the recovered parts. Anyone interested club members should contact Mac on: Mobile: 07764 600 601 Remember, any money made over the costs incurred will be used to recover other abandoned cars found in the countryside - there will probably be more classic cars found, so it is worth us working together on this project. | ||
